The Foschini Group (TFG) is a large international retailer and listed corporate entity, with more than 30 brands spread across multiple countries, such as Australia and the UK. TFG Infotec is the group's IT department, managing a large set of applications for the group, from finance to logistics management systems. Craig and his team are responsible for the development and enforcement of standards for dozens of development teams.
They were previously using a large set of templates to aid in this process, templates developed over 15 years. Although this allowed them to spin up new system faster, it left them unable to upgrade existing systems to their latest frameworks, architecture and technologies as they evolved. So they ended up, like most large organisations, with lots of legacy systems and technical debt.
With Intent Architect, they replaced all their templates within only a few hours and are now not only able to massively speed up the development of new systems but manage their standards continuously and automatically. And, most importantly, are enabling these teams to make immediate and often large-scale upgrades across dozens of systems retroactively - avoiding “legacy” and minimising technical debt.
